Vintage Raleigh Road Bikes are a renowned set of high-performance three-speed bicycles. This "Sports" line of bikes was actually conceived as practical city transport for the British working class. Raleigh used the slogan "The All Steel Bicycle" to differentiate the Raleigh "Sports" Bike from its competitors, who often used heavier and more primitive cast iron for their parts. Their steel composition accounts for much of their durability. Also, in contrast to competitors who bought many of their parts from other manufacturers, Raleigh built the entire frame from scratch in their own factory in Nottingham.
An authentic Raleigh bike should be engraved with its year and model on the rear hub. A Vintage Raleigh Road Bike would make an excellent purchase for the vintage bike enthusiast.
