Because many people want that Victorian look at Christmas, many companies are now making vintage Christmas decorations that look just like the real thing. However, there are a few ways to tell the difference between new pieces and those that really have been around a few years. The main way to tell is by looking for a maker's mark. Is it made by a newer company or one that's been around a while? Better yet, is the company even in business anymore?
Another thing to look for, especially if you happen to find something that still has it's original container, is the address of the maker. An address without a zip code means that the contents were made before 1963. Other things to look for are fabric patterns and/or mold seams on glass or porcelain pieces. These are all good indications that these are truly vintage Christmas decorations and not modern replicas.
