Quilting has been around for generations and in some families, a quilt preserves special events that took place within that family, whether it was a birth or a wedding, but vintage Christmas quilts decorated with Christmas themes are hard to find. Quilts were presented to newlywed couples on their first Christmas together, but the blocks may have only been stitched with the couples name and the year, and consisted of one or two blocks that referenced the quilt as being a Christmas gift.
A small wall hanging, consisting of quilt blocks, is often called a quilt. The Christmas theme is found more prominently to this variation of a quilt. Being of a smaller size to hang on a wall, blocks were made with trees or stars, and the animals or people found on the quilts compared closer to a shadow silhouette art, as opposed to looking like a realistic camel.
