A true vintage Delaware license plate is the only antique plate still used regularly on the roads of the first state. People of Delaware have acquired a very unique fascination with specifically the lower digit plates. The reasoning behind this fascination began a little over a century ago when Delaware began to issue all of their plates in numerical order, meaning that the people that were able to afford cars at that time got the lower numbers. So today, this translates to a status symbol among the people of the first state.
Just recently in 2008 a vintage Delaware license plate went to auction and was sold to a very prominent Delaware family that has been collecting low digit plates for 40 years for $675,000.
