From 1922-1936 Vintage Maryland License Plates had several different color combinations and the placing of the state name reversed every year. In 1922 it was at the top and the next year on the bottom and this pattern kept repeating. The plates did the same thing from 1937-1941, but the size had changed slightly from previous years.
By 1942-1947, the state name was relegated to the top of the plate and the colors were less varied, mostly switching between black and white for the background and letters or numbers. In 1957-1964, the Vintage Maryland License Plates had some notable differences. Mainly the color scheme had switched to blue, white or green, plate size was standardized and the state name remained at the top.
