Vintage cars, by definition, were built between the years 1919 and 1930. Virginia defines a vehicle as antique 30 years after the year of manufacture. Vintage Virginia License Plates are permitted for use on a vehicle that was manufactured in the same year as the license plates. Additionally, the Vintage Virginia License Plates must have plates embossed with the appropriate year. Plates with taped, glued, or painted in years will not be considered authentic and will not be allowed for use on vintage vehicles.
Virginia began issuing plates in 1906. From 1906 through 1913 these plates were in the form of porcelain tags. Finding Vintage Virginia License Plates from these early years have proven fruitless for license plate collectors. If you’re collecting plates, Happy Hunting.
