Established in 1833 by German Luthier Christian Fredrick Martin, the Martin Guitar Co became an innovator of the acoustic guitar. Some of these Innovations included the infamous X bracing system in the 1850s, and the development of the 14 fret neck which allowed musicians to play higher notes on the guitar neck.
Martin's biggest and most important innovation was the first Dreadnought acoustic guitar which overall shapes the company's entire legacy of quality within vintage Martin guitars. One statement that's entirely true about Martin's vintage guitars is the age old saying; "What you get is what you pay for." One of these classics will set you back a couple grand but the overall amount of attention to quality of one of these guitars are stellar.
