Lighted beer signs probably hung on every taverns front window to encourage people to stop in and have a drink. Some taverns had the beer signs hanging on the outside of the building, but more of the signs decorated the interior walls boasting the brand of beer that the tavern had on stock. Beer signs had either just the lighting of the brand name, while others added light behind scenery to advertise the brand.
When neon lighting became an option for signs, beer companies took advantage of it. This type of lighting was brighter and the color options were a broader selection. Collectors select signs by the company they like, or the unique style of the lighted beer signs to add to their breweriana collection.
