The Esso Gas Sign with its oval design, blue border and red embossed lettering, was the forerunner of what is now known as Exxon. During the 1950's and 1960's the Esso mascots were two small characters that resembled droplets, were characterized in different promotional campaigns for the Esso company. This was during the days of clean rest rooms and personalized service at the pump.
The Esso Gas Sign and other petroleum company signs have become a favorite among collectors. Even though undergoing a name change to Exxon, the Esso Gas Sign is a fond reminder of not only less expensive gas prices, but also a period of history that can never be experienced again, or duplicated in this microwave society. Thanks Esso for the memories.
